Hanging up their boots after years of superb coaching

After 12 years of coaching Cumbernauld United under 19s Tam Kimmett and Tom Foley have decided to call it a day.

The final player of the year awards night took place recently in the Hat-Trix Sports Bar at Guy’s Meadow and it was more emotional than previous years as the team will not be returning for pre-season training.

Tam and Tommy began their 12 years of coaching at under eight level where they took control of the youth side at Barronhill, which became affiliated with Cumbernauld United a year later. Sons Daniel and Ross both played for the team but no-one could have predicted the team’s longevity.

Throughout the years many of the boys that played for the team spoke of the set-up in glowing terms. Several players left for one reason or another but found themselves drawn back to Guy’s Meadow, no small part down to the excellent running of the team that Tam and Tommy had built.

The contribution that the two men have made to youth football in Cumbernauld and the surrounding areas has bene immense and they fully deserve a break.
