Hectic schedule beginning to take its toll

The Bully Wee found it tougher going at Galabank than they did last Tuesday, against a team that were desperate to get their promotion charge back on track after Clyde had partially derailed it.

Duffy said: “I think the team put a lot into the game, we’ve had two difficult games down there. The conditions made it tough as well – there was a strong wind and the pitch was bobbly. It’s not a surface for players to run with the ball on.

“They’re a big side and we found it difficult to get in behind them. If we had been a bit sharper in the final third then we would have got something out of the game.”

With Marc McCusker having to be withdrawn at half-time with a groin complaint and Ross McMillan aggravating a medial ligament strain, Clyde’s hectic schedule is beginning to take its toll.

Duffy continued: “They’re obviously two very important players, but that’s the way it’s going to be because of the schedule with so many re-arranged games.

“We’ve played every single Tuesday since I came in. It’s difficult to keep things sharp like that. At this stage we can’t look beyond each game because we don’t know who could pick up a strain.”

Clyde were due to play Montrose at home last night, then it’s on to a double header against league leaders Arbroath at Broadwood on Saturday and Gayfield on Wednesday.

Duffy added: “Broadwood is probably the best surface that’s not artificial in this league. Teams enjoy coming to play here as much as we do. It doesn’t matter what position in the league a team is, we’ll always be in for a tough game at home.”
