Allan Campbell exclusive: All I want to do just now is keep helping Motherwell win games

Campbell, Motherwell’s best player this season having first joined the club’s youth set-up aged nine, is only contracted to the club until next summer and it remains to be seen if he can be enticed to sign an extension by manager Stephen Robinson.

Campbell said: “That would just be something that’s getting talked about with the club.

“The focus just now is just on the football. Anything off the park will get dealt with itself.

Football is the main thing. Motherwell are winning games just now and that’s the main important thing. All I want to do is keep helping the team get results.

“I’ve been here a good few years now.

“It’s been good to come through all the ranks and eventually get the chance to play in the first team, play as good a number of games as I have and, hopefully, I can just keep kicking on and playing a good few more.”

Campbell's latest outstanding display for Motherwell came in Sunday's thumping 3-0 victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

The Steelmen – three goals up within half an hour – coasted home to move up to eighth in the Scottish Premiership, with Campbell producing another superb midfield display.

“Sunday was a fantastic day for the club,” Campbell said.

“It’s been a good week with good performances all round.

“It was a bit of a difficult performance last Thursday (at Coleraine in the Europa League), a bit of a grind.

“The boys came back, recovered well, trained well and put a good performance in on Sunday.

“Credit to the whole team, I think everybody played well. I just did my job, as I try and do every week.

“Just the basics; as long as I can do that and contribute to the team performance, then I’m happy. Everybody did what the manager asked and put in a brilliant performance. It was a great result all round, especially when it was a hard place to go and against a good team.

“To get the three points and a comfortable win was brilliant.”

On the Campbell contract situation, manager Robinson said: “Allan’s out of contract at the end of the season and people at the club deal with players who are out of contract - not just Allan.

“We’ve spoken to them and people have been made offers. It’s up to them whether they sign or not. We can’t throw a massive amount of money at it, we have a structure we work under.

“Everyone has their own decisions to make but anyone who is out of contract and we want to keep have been approached and offers made and it’s other people’s decisions if that happens or not.

“We can’t force people to sign contracts. That’s up to them. There is no time limit on the players at this moment in time. If people sign on the last day of the season I’d be delighted!

“There is no timeframe, everyone’s got their decisions to make and their right to do that, as they’ve earned the right to consider their options so there’s no pressure from me.

“I’m just concentrating solely on when Allan Campbell and others are here and I’ll get absolutely everything out of them and they’ll give me nothing but 110 per cent every game.”
