Motherwell Women's FC bosses Stewart Hall and Willie Kinniburgh bid to land roles full-time

Hall and Kinniburgh have taken charge of ’Well Ladies in their last two SWPL1 games - a pair of 3-2 defeats to Forfar Farmington and Hibernian Ladies – following the shock departure of head coach Eddie Wolecki Black who has left to concentrate on a degree course at a local college.

Hall told the Times and Speaker: “Willie and me have told the club that we would like to take on the roles (full-time) if they’re happy.

"Obviously the club is doing the right thing and going down the correct measures to find a suitable replacement.

"So we have told the club that we would be up for the challenge and taking it on and we feel that we’ve made a difference in the response of the girls in the past two weeks, to be able to take it on.

"The club’s got to do the right thing and make sure they appoint the right person for the longevity of the women’s department at Motherwell. So it’s just a matter of: ‘Wait and see what will happen’.

"I know the club’s not going to rush into a decision. Obviously the club’s got time on their hands this season with there being no relegation.

"Me and Willie feel we could make a good job of it but it’s up to Alan Burrows and the rest of the club to decide that.

"We were asked originally to definitely take it on until the end of the season and me and Willie, both without hesitating, said: ‘Yeah, right we’ll do it’ with no issues.

"And we said right then that we’d be happy to take it on on a full-time basis.

"Over the last two weeks the girls’ reaction has been positive. It’s been good.

"We had Hibs in a friendly two weeks ago and they beat us quite convincingly although it was a friendly and we were chopping and changing the team round about a bit.

"To go from a convincing loss to considering that we should be walking away with some points from the game was definitely a sore one.”

Hall and Kinniburgh face an acid test this Sunday as Motherwell Women visit 14-time league champions Glasgow City in their next SWPL1 fixture, KO 4.10pm.

Hall said: “The game is live on BBC Alba.

"It will be an interesting game. They’ve obviously had quite a significant number of signings come in through the window.

"They looked quite convincing against Celtic (a 3-0 City win on April 4) and from what I’ve seen of the Forfar game so far (a 7-0 City victory on Sunday), they looked pretty convincing then.

"So it will be a tough challenge. It’s going to be a special occasion for us because we have got our new away kit that we’ll be wearing.

"We’ve teamed up with a local charity, You Are My Sunshine. So that will be our debut in that strip which the girls in the first team have picked themselves.

"They picked the charity to represent and designed the strip themselves.

"So it will be a nice occasion with it being on the telly to wear that strip for the first time and showcase the good stuff that Rhonda Jones at You Are My Sunshine does with the charity.

"There’s a high level of mental health issues about the place just now, especially in Lanarkshire, so we’re excited about that as well as the game this weekend.”
