Pollard’s double leaves Motherwell Ladies FC unhappy campers

With Forfar leading 1-0 thanks to a Donna Paterson header, Lori Gardner appeared to be upended in the box for a stonewall spot kick, but the referee waved away the Women of Steel’s appeals.

“It was completely the wrong call,” Motherwell Ladies assistant manager Stewart Hall told the Times and Speaker. “We watched the footage back and it’s a stonewall penalty in my opinion.

“Lori cut in, skipped by the full-back and as she cut into the box, the Forfar centre half has put her leg out.

“Lori has gone by before the leg has come out and knocked Lori over.

“She was about to go and have a shot straight after it, and in my opinion it’s a stonewall penalty, and it was at a crucial point.

“If we score the penalty and it becomes one-each, then I’m sure we would have capitalised on it and could have scored two or three others.

“When it was still 0-0, Forfar had a bit of incentive to try and shut up shop, defend their own 18-yard box and stop conceding another goal.

“We were pushing and pushing, leaving a gap at the back which they capitalised on by making it 2-0 four minutes before half-time.”

The hosts’ second strike arrived on 38 minutes when London Pollard rounded the keeper and scored.

Motherwell hit back before half-time through Lauren Gallon’s fine shot into the top-left corner.

But it was 3-1 10 minutes into the second half when Paterson slotted home a penalty awarded for Roberts’ challenge from behind.

Forfar’s lead was increased to three goals when Pollard slotted low into the bottom right corner on 69 minutes.

’Well then scored when Gallon poked in after a corner had been flicked on.
