Ricki Lamie interview: Motherwell going for Scottish Cup glory

With Rangers and Celtic long since having fallen by the wayside in this season's first cup competition, lesser lights St Johnstone and Livingston contested the recent Betfred final at Hampden with Saints prevailing 1-0."Seeing St Johnstone win the league cup definitely gives us more belief that we could win the Scottish Cup," Lamie told the Times and Speaker.

"It's inevitable that the Old Firm are going to be there or thereabouts. It would be a big scalp for anybody to take.

"But I think we need to be confident. The guys finished third last year and off the back of that we went into Europe.

"It would be great to go on a cup run and if the draw is kind to you and you put in a couple of good performances the next thing you know is that you are in the latter stages. You never know where it can lead you.

"St Johnstone and Livingston showed that if you do the right things it can take you into semi-finals and finals and that's what we'll definitely looking to be doing."

Motherwell's first involvement in the 2020-21 Scottish Cup will come on Saturday, April 3, when they visit either Formartine United or Annan Athletic who play their delayed second round tie next Tuesday, March 23.

Lamie added: "It's good to see a lot of the guys I'm friendly with in the lower leagues back in training.

"It's a famous old cup and it would be great to advance and see what we can do, taking our recent form into that."

The form Lamie refers to covers the draw at St Mirren and the pair of victories over Hibs and Livingston which gives them breathing space in the Scottish Premiership ahead of their return to league duties at bottom club Kilmarnock this Saturday, two weeks after the Livi game.

Ninth placed ’Well go into the match six points clear of 10th placed Ross County nine ahead of second bottom Hamilton and 10 above Killie."It's amazing how how have a massive congestion of fixtures and then suddenly you find yourself without a game," Lamie said."It's typical it would come within a good vain of form but listen, it's been a hectic schedule and we can't hide the fact that we've had bad luck with injuries."
