It's Tommy Wright - who recently resigned as St Johnstone gaffer - who is the hot 8/13 favourite to take over the Green Army hotseat.

Ironically, the other joint second favourite for the role is another former Motherwell manager in Ian Baraclough - the current manager of Northern Ireland under-21s.

Motherwell boss Robbo - a popular figure with fans after leading the club to third place after 30 games of this coronavirus-afflicted season - also has reaching both national cup finals with the Steelmen in the 2017-2018 campaign on his CV.

The Northern Ireland job became available on April 22 when Michael O'Neill, who guided his country to the Euro 2016 finals in France, quit after eight years in charge to focus on his manager's job at Stoke City.

He had been poised to lead Northern Ireland into March's postponed Euros qualifier with Bosnia-Herzegovina.

However Uefa has now proposed to reschedule this game for the autumn.
