Job done as Rabs retain their top flight status

Rab’s future was secured last Monday when Shettleston’s defeat by Hurlford meant Stewart Maxwell’s men couldn’t be hauled into a relegation play-off.

The Rabs boss said he was delighted that it was ‘job done’ - although he admitted being a little disappointed at the second half of his side’s league campaign.

Following last season’s promotion Rabs made a whirlwind start to their Super League Premier Division campaign with six wins from their first seven games.

That even fuelled title talk in some quarters but Maxwell always insisted safety was his priority - and his caution proved well founded.

He said: “We said at the start of the season that consolidation was the aim so from that point of view it’s ‘job done’.

“We started with a good run. It’s important for any newly promoted side to start well and get some points.

“But then a bit of a loss of form and a horrendous run of injuries over a three-month spell took its toll.

“But I’ve got a terrific bunch of boys who train well and never give me any bother. We can now look to the cup and hopefully get to the later stages.

“But we’ll have to approach the game properly as Bellshill have been relegated from their division and will look on this as a chance to take something from their season.”
