Junior bosses eye play-off place

Kilsyth have suffered a slight dip in form which has cast doubt over their chances of winning the league, but can still clinch a play-off place should they win their remaining games.

Cumbernauld’s recent form has been good, despite a 5-2 defeat to Glenafton at the weekend, and has secured their place in the league for next year.

Kilsyth assistant boss Martin Mooney was pleased his side managed to salvage a point in their 2-2 draw with Glenafton last week and feels that it has given his players a boost.

“At the end of the day I’m delighted with the point, especially when Renfrew were beaten,” said Mooney.

“Shotts have so many games left and you just don’t know how this is going to pan out. They have managed to get the results as well, so the draw was better than a loss. It was a very windy game against Glenafton. In the second half we scored and then gifted them a goal.

“They got a real boost from that and scored again but our boys never stopped going and we got the point.”

Kilsyth are set to play Shotts at Hannah Park tomorrow night (Thursday, kick-off 7.15pm) and Mooney added: “I’m feeling better about the game now.

“We’ll go there and try and get anything we can and take it to the last game. I think the best we can hope for is a play-off.”

Cumbernauld boss John Queen is similarly hopeful of a play-off spot but isn’t getting too far ahead of himself.

His side played Shotts last night (Tuesday) as we went to press, but before the game Queen said: “Our game against Glenafton (5-2 loss) sounds like a bleaching but there was nothing between the teams.

“We were still outstanding when we were down to ten men. I was heartbroken for the players to have put in so much but we did OK.

“We want to get to the 42 point mark and see if we can get that third place play-off position. We had a horrific start to the season, and it’s a long shot, and we can’t get there on our own, but we still want to win our games.”
