Kilsyth started brightly on this dullest of days with the rain coming down heavily, and with only two mins gone following some neat passing, Desmond of Kilsyth saw an effort come back off the cross bar and cleared to safety.

It was Kilsyth again who created the next chance, this time Kerr sliced an effort wide of goal and Simon Eeles also tried his luck with an effort from 25 yards which cleared the crossbar. Kilsyth were having plenty possession in the early stages and it was from a loose pass in midfield that let Ashfield break out and push down the right hand side where former Kilsyth man, Joe Barclay sent over a fine cross where his strike partner “Gilmartin” was allowed time to control it before smashing a powerful shot past Duke in the kilsyth goal. This goal seemed to knock Kilsyth off there stride and for the next 20 mins they were very frantic in possession and struggled to make any inroads to the Ashfield defence. Kelly as ever was the one Kilsyth player who looked like he could create and saw an effort cannon off a defender and out for a corner. As the half wore on Kilsyth were to be thwarted twice by the stand side linesman as Eeles looked to breaking clear only to see him raise his flag, much to the annoyance of the crowd.

As the half drew to a close Doyle picked up a booking for a rash challenge.
