Kilsyth to the four at '˜Pace

The win - Rangers’ third in four games - left waiting on the outcome of Saturday’s Rob Roy v Rossvale match to determine the team going through to the knockout stages.

Rangers made a good start, keeping Dunipace on the defensive early on, and Nicky Prentice came very close with a diving header which, had it gone in, would have been a really spectacular goal.

The visitors kept up the pressure and Paul McBride bringing out a fine save from McFarlane with a low shot.

There were plenty more near things before the opening goal which, when it came, was rather bizarre.

Frannie Kelly put over a speculative cross which the keeper made a half hearted attempt to cut out but the ball swerved over his head to strike the back post and end up in the net.

A little later Paul McBride got his reward for persistence by finishing off a fine move with a tap-in from close range.

A two-goal lead at the interval did not really reflect Rangers dominance of the first half, but Dunipace came out fighting and Thompson shocked Rangers with an easy goal within two minutes of the restart.

They had a further short spell of pressure and a couple of good chances before Rangers shook themselves out of their apathy and resumed where they had left off in the first period.

Kelly, with a first time shot from a wide position, restored Rangers’ two goal advantage and a little later Paul McBride also got his second goal following a spell of sustained attacking play.

There were still more than a few chances being made but no further goals were forthcoming.
