The new West of Scotland Premier League, which will feed into the Lowland League, will comprise the past season’s 16 SJFA West Region Premiership teams, with no relegation, the top three sides in the Championship and South of Scotland League side Bonnyton.

Many of the 63 former junior clubs moving across had expected the entire set-up to be divided into conferences with the top sides forming the Premier League the following season.

Rob Roy manager Stewart Maxwell, whose side are now spared relegation, said: “For me, if it had gone into conferences I wasn’t bothered but I understand why people are frustrated.

“I think everybody was under the impression it would be conferences and they would get a crack at going for the Premier League and there will be people upset, I get that.

“But we just need to move forward, the most important thing is getting back to being able to play football.”
