Rabs have signed former East Stirlingshire and East Kilbride defender Robert Griffiths and midfielder Ciaran McPherson from Pollok under-20s.

The Rob Roy boss isn’t ruling out any more additions - but only if they will add quality and are within the club’s budget. And if that doesn’t happen he’s happy with what he’s got.

He said: “With our budget size wise we’ve got good numbers now but we’re always looking to add a bit of quality. We’ve a young squad this year, with a bit of experience, but if I didn’t get another player in I wouldn’t be over-perturbed.

“If I got the right player and think he could improve the squad and he was in our price range, then we would look at it. But I’m happy with what I’ve got just now and the players are looking sharp in training.

“Young Ciaran has been training with us for a couple of weeks, we’ve assessed him and he’s shown up really well.

“He’s a big, athletic lad with an eye for goal. He’s got a great attitude and wants to improve and play at the highest level he can. He fits in well with what we’re trying to do with a young, dynamic team we’re going with.

“Robert was at East Stirlingshire last year and prior to that was at East Kilbride. He’s a big powerhouse, aggressive centre-back.

“We lost Scott Forrester to Caledonian Braves and Robert’s probably more of a powerhouse replacement. Scott’s a good football player but we need someone in there with aggression and Robert certainly gives us that. At 21 he’s another one at a good age.”

Rabs are now back in training in preparation for their first season as a senior club in the new West of Scotland League, although they still don’t know when that will be.

The latest indications are that friendlies can be played from mid-September with competitive action possibly starting on October 17.

Maxwell said: “We’ve done a couple of sessions and they’ve gone well. We’re just getting back into it, like everybody else. But we know things can change quickly. We’re just sticking to the protocol just now and the players are training hard and are desperate to play.

“But we just don’t know when; we’ve just got to stick to the guidelines until we get told different.”
