As more and more business get the green light to reopen after lockdown, the Rabs boss fears football has been left behind to some extent.

He told Heraldsport: “I do think we’ll be playing football by the start of October.

“But I don’t understand how beer gardens, pubs and restaurants can open but you can’t play football.

“If you are taking sanitisation precautions, why can you not play football?”

As Scottish director for X-Mist, a disinfecting mist to kill viruses and destroy bacteria, the Rabs boss is well placed to judge the role the sanitisation business and cleaning products can play in helping football.

He says X-Mist can be used in a variety of locations, from schools and hospitals to cars and aircraft.

And while a strain of Covid-19 has yet to be released for commercial testing purposes, Maxwell believes football clubs and their surrounding environment can still be made as safe as possible.

He said: “X-Mist is an atmospheric room sanitiser, a vehicle sanitiser, an all-round sanitiser which does hands, steering wheel, handles.

“Our products have been BS [British Standards] tested to suggest that it kills coronavirus. People are asking about Covid-19 but there hasn’t been a commercial strain released to be tested for Covid-19 yet.

“The issue is how are you going to combat and sanitise. If clubs provide information on what they are doing, why can they not be playing? Pubs, restaurants, cinemas are all going to be providing what they are doing so why can’t football teams?”

The Rob Roy manager has already reached agreements for X-Mist to be used at a number of Scottish football clubs, including Hamilton Accies, Livingston and St Mirren, as well as other businesses .

He said: “We’ve done a back to football sanitisation plan through my business.

“We developed this product about nine months ago.

“That’s the sanitisation process that we’re suggesting. We’ve got a sanitisation package together for all the clubs, we’ve tied in with.

“We have decontamination chambers which we’re selling to restaurants, pubs and bars. to sports clubs and football teams at a higher level.

“I’ve a package there which the West of Scotland League have looked at which could get all the teams back playing and doing the necessary measures.

“We’re not saying you’re going to stop everybody getting it.

“But if you’re providing the necessary health and safety sanitisation you’re doing your due diligence.”
