Last week’s Scottish Government announcement gave all clubs the option to resume training from Monday of this week.

But Maxwell, who works in the sanitisation business, wants to make sure all protocols required to keep Covid-19 at bay can be observed.

He said: “In the last week or so we’ve seen cases rise and a lot of spikes throughout the country so I think that will continue - it’s how they get a game plan together to keep football going now, because they’ve got to do that.

“It’s something we’re going to have to live with for a lot longer than people realise and we’ve just got to do our bit as a club to try and keep it at bay and get football back.

“We need some sort of consistency now, so they need to give us objectives on what teams need to do to sanitise, PPE, protect the crowds and players when they come in and we’ll take the objectives off the league and do the best we possibly can to adhere to these procedures.

“The boys know that next Monday it starts for real and hopefully we can get a clear run at it.

“It’s totally frustrating for the players because you just don’t want to go into groundhog day when you’re training constantly with no end point, no games, not even any friendlies.

“All the clubs need that and it will give us some sense of belief that we can get the league up and running.”

Maxwell is also hopeful that fans can be admitted when games are played.

He said: “It’s not just the income. For supporters it gives them their life back, what they like doing on a Saturday. We can accommodate supporters at our level because we’re not carrying crowds of thousands, it’s hundreds.

“We seem to be able to go into pubs and restaurants, if we can do that we can definitely segregate at football games with no problem.”
