Last gasp fightback a cause for ‘Lok woe

Two injury time goals consigned Pollok to their first league defeat of the season as Shettleston triumphed 3-2 at Greenfield Park. Shettleston took the lead in the 31st minute when Jamie McArthur powered Kenny Marshall’s corner past Ross Harkness in the ‘Lok goal. Shettleston had goalkeeper Bryn Halliwell to thank for ensuring that they went in with the advantage at the crossover after Davie Winters was felled by Robert Campbell in the box, but the ex-Clyde man kept Winters’ resultant penalty out.

Pollok equalised in the 75th minute though when Giuseppe Capuano sent in a deep cross that substitute Thomas Clark met with a diving header at the back post to beat Halliwell. The visitors took the lead five minutes later when Tam Hanlon’s low, front-post corner was flicked into the net by Winters.

Shettleston refused to let their heads go down, and were rewarded in the first minute of added time after the ‘Lok rearguard failed to deal with Connell Boyle’s corner, allowing Ross Dickson to nod home from close range. In the third additional minute, the Pollok defence could only clear a cross ball out to Danny Boyle, who fired a looping volley which nestled in the corner of Harkness’ net, and made sure the three points would remain in the East End of the city.

Pollok look to bounce back this Saturday when they host Cumbernauld United at Newlandsfield Park, kick off 2pm.
