Gaffer Stewart Maxwell said he was “bitterly disappointed” at the result after seeing his team control the game for long periods.

He said: “We played so well that I was in disbelief that we lost the game – never mind by three goals.

“We made three errors, had a stonewall penalty turned down and never took our chances. We were also up against the best goalkeeper in the league.”

The loss leaves the Kirkintilloch team with only three wins from nine league games and facing a must-win game against struggling Largs Thistle – who have only picked up a single point so far this season.

Stewart said: “We need to dust ourselves down and must get a win on Saturday and take three points.

“It’s a crucial game and all the boys are well aware of the importance.

“We need to defend as a team – not just as individuals – and stop the errors which are costing us games.

“The supporters have been phenomenal and I have every faith that we can turn it around.”

Rob Roy take on Largs Thistle this Saturday at Adamslie Park. Kick-off is at 2pm.
