The Campsie side were well supported from the sidelines with nearly 50 brave souls taking advantage of a bus organised by the club.

Truth be told this wasn’t a classic performance by Minerva who only needed a point to make them league winners with promotion back to the Premier League.

They did it the hard way, but secured all three points on the night to emphasise their position as champions. The game started brightly enough with both C. Duff and McKie coming close in the early period. It was midfielder C. Duff who opened the scoring in the 16th minute – prodding the ball home after a goalmouth scramble. The visitors continued to press and came close on several occasions with efforts from McKie and Durick.

Against the run of play East Kilbride drew level just after the half-hour mark. They were gifted possession on the halfway line, but made the most of the opportunity with a sweet move that culminated in a shot that Tait had no chance of reaching.

The first period ended with even more Minerva pressure, but no further goals were to be had.

Minerva continued to press from the off in the second half and took the lead again in the 53rd minute when Smart headed home from close range.

To be fair to the Minerva players there was no lack of effort in their game, but lady luck seemed to desert them in front of goal.

McKenna, who replaced McKie, had a glorious chance near the end, but somehow managed to scoop the ball over the bar.

In the end Minerva were just too strong for East Kilbride and J. Duff had one of his best games in a Campsie shirt. There was wild celebrations from the Campsie contingent on the final whistle and rightly so.
