Lennon looking for Clyde to bounce back quickly after City setback

Second-half goals from Scott Shepherd and Blair Henderson secured the points for an impressive City side emerging as promotion contenders themselves.

But while taking nothing away from the capital outfit, Lennon felt his players contributed to their own downfall, particularly in the way they conceded the two goals in an eight-minute spell which settled the match.

He said: “It was a bad day at the office, but we’ve got to dust ourselves down very quickly and get back and do what we do best, that’s working hard.

"I didn’t feel there was a great deal in the game in the first half and the second half started very, very similar.

“But the manner in which we lost the two goals today was disappointing.

“That performance, particularly at home, was well below what we can expect and what we can achieve.

“We’ve got to make sure first and foremost that in every single game we’re the hardest working team.”

Goodwillie missing

It would be an over-simplification to attribute Clyde’s defeat by Edinburgh City on Saturday solely to the absence of David Goodwillie, who was attending at the birth of his child.

But it was undoubtedly a factor as Lennon acknowledged afterwards.

He said: “I actually looked forward to the game to see what we what looked like without him.

“I thought it was a great opportunity for one or two, but somebody of the quality of David Goodwillie anybody is going to miss him.

“It just shows you how valuable he is. I think that was very evident.

“David Goodwillie can tie a back four up himself. He stretches, he runs beyond, he’s strong, he links the play, he’s intelligent and whilst we got into some very good areas today I felt the final decision wasn’t the right one more often than not."

Next up for Clyde on Saturday is a trip to Galabank to face an Annan Athletic side who, like last week's opponents, have also enjoyed a good start to the season.
