Long lay-off takes its toll on United

East Kilbride Thistle 3 Cumbernauld United 0

Stagecoach Super League, Division One

THIS was a typical match with both sides obviously short of match practice due to the recent winter conditions.

This was United’s first match since mid November and it showed. Neither side really played to their full potential and it was the home side who, going two goals ahead with the first 15 minutes, deserved the points.

Goals from McLung and Watson were enough to put Jags on the road to victory. Watson scoring his second counter put the final seal on their win after 30 minutes in the first half.

Conditions pitch-wise weren’t conducive to playing a passing game and this didn’t help either side to do this.

The second period was just a stalemate and in the end Jags deserved the points for taking their chances.

Next Saturday United are again away on League business to Ashfield at Saracen Park. Kick off 1.45pm.
