McGhee: Cadden extension well deserved

Motherwell FC gaffer Mark McGhee today revealed his delight that young midfield ace Chris Cadden (20) has penned a one-year contract extension to summer 2019.

McGhee said: “This is thoroughly deserved for Chris.

“He is playing every week and starting most weeks. He has applied himself.

“I have been here a year now and when I came in Chris was one of the ones I targeted and he has done everything I have asked of him.

“I’m delighted for him because he has been starting to progress, not just on the field but off the field.

“I still think he is improving. I think there are aspects of his play he can work really hard on.

“At the moment he is most effective on the outside. I still think he can play in the centre of the park and be a great asset in there.

“He has to add some goals to his game, but he is still young. He is still developing and hopefully that will improve.”

McGhee said that Keith Lasley’s injury has cleared up, meaning that Motherwell have a fully fit squad for this Saturday’s Scottish Premiership encounter at bottom club Dundee.

“First goals are very important,” the Fir Park manager added.

“We have to guard against them getting that because it would give them a huge lift and galvanise them in front of their own support.

“If we could get the first goal that would give them a problem.”
