Minerva take the derby honours – and the new shirts!

Kilsyth Ams were the visitors to the High Park in Lennoxtown and, like Minerva, haven’t been at their best of late.

At the end of the game were Minerva happy with their display? Probably not. Were they happy to take the three points? Without a doubt.

Minerva started the game brightly enough and in the opening minutes saw lots of the ball, but with only six minutes on the clock a lively looking Kilsyth side took the lead after some poor defending by Minerva.

Keeper Tait kept his side in the match with only 11 minutes on the clock when he got down well to a sweetly struck shot that came through a ruck of players – the big keeper couldn’t have had much time to react.

Minerva drew level on the quarter-hour mark when a long throw by J Duff was headed on by Gow and midfielder Kimmett acted quickest to head powerfully past the Kilsyth keeper.

Only 10 minutes later Minerva went further behind.

Kilsyth weren’t playing silky soccer, but they were first to nearly every ball and it was this determination that saw them take the lead on 25 minutes – yet again taking full advantage of some lethargic Minerva defending.

The second half saw Minerva up the standard slightly and they took the game more to the visitors, but they rarely troubled the Kilsyth keeper.

A succession of corners brought no rewards for the home side and their nerves were tested by a succession of yellow cards from the ref.

Goal-scoring attempts by Minerva were as rare as a week’s sunny weather this year and apart from a half-hearted shot by Hendrie, Kilsyth’s keeper had little to do.

To be fair though Minerva keeper Tait by now was also a virtual spectator.

Minerva’s deserved equaliser came with 83 minutes played. Hendrie cutely laid off the ball to the on-rushing Kemmitt who blasted home from around 12 yards.

The home side left it late to secure three points. There was 90 minutes on the clock when substitute McKie used good strength in the box to get a powerful shot on goal that literally whizzed past the Kilsyth keeper.
