The 46-year-old Northern Irishman tendered his resignation after a 2-0 home defeat by Kilmarnock on Wednesday.

That loss continued a dismal run for the Fir Parkers which has seen them slump to third bottom of the table after nine games without a win.

Robinson became Well boss in March 2017 and in his first full season guided them to the finals of both Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup, losing both to Celtic.

And the club were third in the Premiership when last season was cut short by Covid-19, earning them a place in the Europa League. But this season has been a struggle.

A club statement said: "After Wednesday night's match with Kilmarnock, Stephen approached the board, giving an honest assessment of the current situation.

"He then stated his desire to leave. It is with regret that the board accepted his resignation."
