Rangers bring in Mooney

THE area’s Junior football fixtures were again hit by wintry weather at the weekend, with both Cumbernauld United and Kilsyth Rangers ending up idle.

Kilsyth’s Scottish Junior Cup tie against Irvine Meadow was called off on Saturday morning due to a frozen pitch.

The game will now take place this coming Saturday at Duncansfield, kick-off 1.45pm.

In the event, only one Scottish Cup game scheduled did go ahead – Bo’ness United beating Bellshill Athletic 2-1 to become the only team so far to go through to the fifth round of the competition.

The massive backlog of fixtures resulting from the prolonged spell of cold weather is creating a real problem for clubs and many will face playing up to three times a week once evening games can be played.

Rangers have replaced their previous coach Danny Smith with Martin Mooney, who was previously at Camelon Juniors and has vast experience of the Junior game.

Cumbernauld United’s game against East Kilbride Thistle in the West of Scotland Super League First Division was also called off. This game as also been rescheduled for this Saturday, January 29, with a 1.45 p.mm. kick-off.
