Andrew Cavenagh stance on Danny Rohl revealed as Rangers boss addresses future amid Ibrox pressure cooker
The Light Blues gaffer has come under scrutiny after three consecutive league defeats
Danny Rohl’s position as Rangers boss may be under a microscope from sections of the support - but he claims he has the full backing of chairman Andrew Cavenagh and the rest of the board.
Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Celtic officially ended any trophy hopes for Rangers this season, in what was their third defeat in as many games. They now face Hibs and Falkirk in an attempt to restore some element of pride after a disastrous fortnight. The Hibs fixture on Wednesday night will be captain James Tavernier’s last in front of a home crowd as his 11-year Ibrox spell nears its conclusion.
Rohl got Rangers back into the title race with a positive run of results midway through the season and led them into the split with all the momentum, however, a poor run-in has raised question marks over his future and whether he can handle the pressure in the crucial moments. Despite this, speaking ahead of the Hibs clash at Ibrox tomorrow, the Rangers boss ensures he has full backing from Cavenagh going into next season.
Rohl discusses Rangers future
The German claims there are ”no question marks” on his end regarding his future and that he will still be Rangers boss going into the 2026/27 campaign regardless of the last two results. He has also been linked with the vacancy at VFL Wolfsburg back in his homeland but insists his full focus is on matters at Ibrox.
When asked if chairman Cavenagh echoes his claims that he’ll be around for next season, Rohl responded: “Yes. I think the last 48 hours was, like I said, unbelievable. The support from the board, everyone around me, see a lot of positive things, but we are also critical of ourselves. There's no question mark. The most important thing, as I have said many times, we have to take all the information we need in the new season.
“Of course, no question mark from my side. Like I said three days ago, I had a choice when I joined the club and it was about finding a club where you can win titles, have demanding environment when you can bring something back to the club and this is my focus.”
Boss demands big send off for Tavernier
It will be an emotional farewell for Rangers skipper Tavernier on Wednesday night, one which he and supporters alike would prefer to be in better circumstances. The 34-year old has scored 144 goals from right back and made over 500 Rangers appearances, winning a SPFL Premiership title, Scottish Cup and League Cup in the process. Rohl is hoping the fans give the captain a ‘great goodbye’.
He continued: “Hopefully, even in this situation, it's not the easiest one. We can create for him a great goodbye, I think he deserves it. He did a lot of things for the club, a long, long time here for our club. He loves the club and he made the decision finally. I really respect him and I think it's important that he gets a good goodbye from all of us.”
