Celtic is 'attractive' move for talent with Dermot Desmond link, ex Rangers ace backed for UK transfer

Here are some of the latest Rangers and Celtic headlines.

Rangers and Celtic are both in European action tonight when Europa League duty calls.

The Light Blues are at home to Braga and know a victory is needed if they want to salvage any hopes of football beyond the league phase. For Celtic, it’s a trip to Feyenoord where they are still under the interim management of Martin O’Neill assisted by player pathway manager Shaun Maloney.

From an ex Rangers and Leeds United star being backed for an EFL return and a striker’s transfer links to Celtic, the rumours are ramping up with January in sight. Here are some of the latest from an Old Firm perspective.

Celtic linked to Dermot Desmond affiliated striker

One position Celtic could look to recruit in January is a striker and the Sun have claimed that Irish talent Michael Noonan is one player who could flash up on their radar. He has been liked by Manchester United and Manchester City south of the border after showing his potential at Shamrock Rovers.

It’s now claimed Celtic want to try and capture him, and there’s a Dermot Desmond connection too, with the major Parkhead shareholder holding a 25% share of the League of Ireland club. Reporting reads: “Celtic are optimistic they can fend off increased competition to sign Shamrock Rovers striker Michael Noonan. Noonan underlined his talent with three goals in five games for Ireland as they reached the last 16 of the Under-17 World Cup.

“Manchester United have been reported as being keen on the forward with local rivals Manchester City having a long-held interest in him. In February, he became the youngest scorer in the history of the Conference League when, at 16 years and 197 days, he bagged the only goal in Rovers’ 1-0 win away to Molde. So far, he has netted nine times in 44 outings for Stephen Bradley’s side and will hope to hit double figures against Shakhtar Donetsk. The form of the Co Kildare native at club and international level has increased his number of suitors but Celtic remain an attractive option to him. Noonan turns 18 on July 31 next year which means any move would have to wait until then.”

Ex Leeds United and Rangers star to EFL rumour

EFL pundit Lee Hendrie has backed ex-Rangers and Leeds United star Glen Kamara for a return to the English Championship. The midfielder shone at Rangers and helped the club to 2022’s Europa League final plus Premiership crown a year earlier and then pitched up at Leeds United.

He’s most recently been at Rennes but Leicester City and Ipswich Town have been linked with January switches. Ex-Aston Villa man Hendrie, who predominantly works for Sky Sports as part of their English lower leagues coverage, said to Football League World: “He hasn’t really had much time, as in playing time, so no surprise that the likes of Leicester and Ipswich are looking to maybe bring him in.

“I’m sure there will be a lot more clubs that will be interested in signing, because of what he brings to a side in that role he carries in midfield. I think lots of players who probably aren’t featuring at clubs, this is where it starts to get a little bit hot, obviously little bits of talk and movement, does get ready for that January window.”
