Danny Rohl gives Rangers injury update amid fear of escalating crisis as two fresh doubts emerge pre-Falkirk
The Rangers boss has provided an important update on striker Ryan Naderi and left-back Tuur Rommens as concerns raised over two other stars
Rangers head coach Danny Rohl has revealed he fears that Ryan Naderi could miss the rest of the campaign with a “serious” muscle injury as he delivered a squad update ahead of Sunday’s Premiership clash away to Falkirk.
January signing Naderi - who cost £4.7m from German third-tier side Hansa Rostock on deadline day - went off at half-time during last weekend’s 4-2 win over Dundee United at Ibrox shortly after he opened the scoring, with Rohl confirming post-match that the striker’s problem was “not good”.
And the German boss is unsure whether he will play any further part in the title race run-in, before expressing concerns over the fitness of another two key players ahead of making the trip to Falkirk’s artificial pitch this weekend.
Providing an update on Naderi, Rohl admitted: “We assessed him and I think it’s a serious one. We don’t know when he’s back. it’s a kind of muscle injury where we need to look at it week by week. We have to re-scan him in two weeks and we will know more.”
Asked if he could return before the end of the season, Rohl added: “The hope is always there, but we have to wait for two weeks then we will see a bit more how it is going with the treatment.
”It’s not nice when you lose players from your squad, but sometimes this happens. Ryan has made a great impact since his arrival. Not just his goals but his work off the ball and his runs for the team. But it’s football and we need to look for new solutions.
“There are a lot of players who are available and we need to stick together and we go forward.”
Rohl issue positive update on Tuur Rommens’ fitness
Rohl raised “question marks” over both Andreas Skov Olsen and Mikey Moore’s participation against Falkirk and also issued a positive update on left-back Tuur Rommens, who missed last weekend’s game after picking up a knock in training.
“Tuur had more treatment this week and it was very successful. This weekend will come too early for him but it looks like he could maybe be back for the first game in the split, latest the second game.
“It gives me confidence with the schedule that we don’t play every couple of days. It’s more spread out so it gives us a bit more time.”
Rohl voices praise for Falkirk’s top-six achievement
Rohl is expecting another huge battle against John McGlynn’s high-flying Bairns, who secured their place in the top half of the Premiership table with a 3-2 victory over Motherwell last weekend.
“Firstly, big respect to Falkirk,” Rohl stated. “I think they’re having a good season, a good development and the manager has done a good job with them. To get the promotion and then finish in the first six this season is a big achievement so far. They’re still in the (Scottish) Cup as well, so we will face an opponent who have nothing to lose now.
“For some teams, this is nice because you can also gamble more offensively. We have to prepare for this but we are ready for the game and want to win the final one before the split.”
