Danny Rohl in Rangers title hope confession as he admits silverware chances distant 'but not impossible'

The Rangers boss has been addressing his side’s title prospects after falling nine points behind joint-leaders Hearts and Celtic at the summit

Danny Rohl concedes Rangers’ route to Scottish Premiership title success this season remains “a long way but it's not impossible” following successive draws against Falkirk and Dundee United.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss remains unbeaten domestically, but the Ibrox side have seen the gap to joint-top Hearts and Celtic stretch to nine points, albeit Rangers have a game in hand over the Jambos.

Despite being off the pace, Celtic’s home clash with Derek McInnes’ men on Sunday will afford Rangers the chance to gain some ground on Saturday evening when the travel to Kilmarnock.

It will be the first time Rohl has coached a team on a synthetic playing surface since his time “in the academy” of Bayern Munich. The 36-year-old explained he will rely on his players who “know the pitch better,” adding: “A lot of teams before won there. This is also the mindset, not looking for excuses, take the points and go home.”

He continued: “The two opponents or teams ahead of us has to play against each other, not both can win. We have all the games in our hand, it is a long way but it's not impossible.”

Nedim Bajrami to earn Rangers lifeline after praise for Dundee United heroics

One player who has been brought in from the cold in recent games is Nedim Bajrami and Rohl heaped praise on the Albanian international for the impressive impact made during Wednesday night’s last-gasp 2-2 draw against United at Tannadice.

And Rohl reflected: “He deserved it. That was as well a big message to my group, that it was a guy who trained really hard, he was not talking, he was waiting for the opportunity and then he was there and took the opportunity.

“He played too often to the right in not-so-dangerous areas and now in this game he was much, much more in the half position. It helped a lot, it showed me that he was listening.

“He gives us, especially in the offensive, calmness on the ball but also some good decision making, and it helps to speed up our game and create more and more chances.”

Rohl confirmed Tottenham Hotspur loanee Mikey Moore is in line to return to the matchday squad after recovering from injury, but versatile defender Dujon Sterling, who has been included in recent squads, will not be risked on the Rugby Park artificial pitch.
