'It's nice' - Rival star on Rangers transfer radar addresses rumours as he names his 'next step' objective
Rangers target Elliot Watt has opened up on Motherwell’s season and his recent transfer links
Motherwell star and Rangers target Elliot Watt has addressed the recent transfer rumours that have surrounded him, despite him only arriving at his new club last summer.
The midfielder left EFL League One side Burton Albion in June 2025, allowing him an open route to join Motherwell on a two-year deal. It then didn’t take long for rival interest to come Watt’s way.
When the January window opened, reports quickly emerged linking Watt to Rangers. Under the new management of Danny Rohl, the Light Blues have been pushing to chase down Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts and snatch the title at the end of the season.
However, the Well are also enjoying a strong season and they are yet to be beaten in the league in 2026. Speaking ahead of Sunday’s win over Aberdeen, Watt responded to questions about rival interest being shown in him and what he envisions as the next step in his career.

Motherwell posted a video interview with Watt ahead of their league clash with Aberdeen. When asked how he handled seeing the reports linking him to other clubs, the 25-year-old replied: “It’s nice for anybody to praise you and to be talked about.
“I think if you asked anybody in any walk of life if they could be praised and told they could go to the next level and do a job in a better step in terms of European football and whatnot, I’m sure they would like to be talked about in that light.”
Watt then stressed that he wants to prove the standard of player he is following a recent injury set-back. The current focus is on finishing as high in the Premiership as possible with Motherwell, while he wants to take the ‘next step’ in his career by securing European football.
