Fabrizio Romano in transfer claim over Rangers player as two clubs eye free agent raid

The midfielder has impressed in spells at Rangers but time has been marred by injury.

A Rangers player has been linked to a duo of European clubs by transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano.

The Light Blues face Motherwell this weekend in one of their five Premiership post-split fixtures against top six opposition, amid a quest for title glory, a point off leaders Hearts. Future planning will be ongoing in the process and summer transfer movement is likely to feature amongst that.

Bailey Rice’s future will be resolved one way or the other. The Scotland youth international’s season has been wrecked by injury but has impressed when given the chance at Rangers after joining from Motherwell. He is out of contract in the summer and no new deal is on the table as of yet. Romano has claimed via X that German side Schalke 04 and Ajax in Holland are both keen on pouncing. Rice has played just 45 minutes of senior football this season, against Alloa Athletic in the League Cup back in August, playing 16 first team matches overall for Rangers.

Who could Bailey Rice sign for this summer?

He has stated: “Ajax and Schalke are both trying to sign Bailey Rice from Rangers as a free agent. Scottish midfielder is out of contract this summer and Schalke have made initial personal terms offer already. Bailey hasn’t agreed yet with Rangers on a new deal and he’s open to options.”

Currently, Nico Raskin, Tochi Chukwuani, Mohamed Diomande and Connor Barron are amongst Rangers’ midfield options. Another Rangers player out of contract in the summer is captain James Tavernier, with the right-back talking on what comes next this week, alongside the aims for the rest of this season.

He said: "I'll keep playing, 100%. I'm not slowing down, I'm still putting in numbers. I wish I had more assists this season but I'll speak to the lads about that. I've been putting them on a plate for people! But my body feels great. I think I've got another three or four years. I've always been robust in my career, I've never had muscular injuries. I just have to keep looking after myself."

James Tavernier on Rangers new contract

“I'm fully focused on the team and my performances and there's a team behind me who deal with that kind of stuff. Even when it's about a new contract, it's not something I ever pushed for. It's just happened. I'm very laid back in life and I believe things happen for a reason.

"I'm in full control of what I can do right now. I can't control what happens at the end of the season. But it will be about what's right for myself and my family. I play for my family, they're such a big part of my life. So it will be a conversation I have with my wife and kids.

"I'm just focusing on Motherwell and what I have to do this weekend. I'm in this position for the first time in my career, but in the years I've been in contract I've never thought about the next season or what might happen in the summer. It would be special to win that league trophy and that's our aim. We want to put ourselves in a position to do that."
