John McGinn ready to troll Rangers icon at Aston Villa after he breaks one of Ibrox legend's records

The Aston Villa star is ready to dig out the Rangers legend.

John McGinn is ready to dish out some digs to a Rangers legend when returning to Aston Villa after scoring again for Scotland.

The midfielder scored the opener in a 2-1 Nations League A Group 1 victory over Poland. A win allows Scotland to hold onto their status in League A for now ahead of a play-off next year, with international football now by with until 2025.

Having scored the winner in a 1-0 success over Croatia last week to match Rangers icon Ally McCoist’s haul of 19 goals, he went one better to become clear as Scotland’s fifth highest scorer of all time.

McCoist now commentates south of the border on Premier League matches as well keeping tabs on his beloved Rangers, and McGinn is well aware of that. The Aston Villa and Scotland star is ready to play wind-up merchant when he sees him next.

He said: "It’s mad. My dad was over at the game on Monday, he’s not one for emotional messages or anything but he sent a nice text to say it’s surreall seeing his boy in the top five all time scorers for Scotland which is a bit mad. I am sure I’ll wind Ally McCoist up next time he is commentating on an Aston Villa game.

“It was a bit of a roller coaster. At half time, we knew it was 1-0 to Portugal. We thought 'right we’re in pot one'. So it's a really nice feeling to [potentially] stay in League A, but we wanted more."
