Philippe Clement to remain in Rangers hotseat as cold water poured on swirling social media rumours

Philippe Clement has NOT left his position as Rangers manager, contrary to social media rumours swirling on Sunday afternoon.
WhatsApp messages claiming the under-fire Belgian boss had quit his role at Ibrox by “mutual consent” began to spread quickly in the wake of Saturday’s 1-1 Premiership draw at home to Dundee United, with suggestions that a 6pm club statement was being prepared to announce his departure.

The Light Blues fell eleven points adrift of fierce rivals Celtic at the top of the league table after being held to another disappointing result against the Tangerines with Vaclav Cerny’s equaliser countering Sam Dalby’s first-half opener.

Clement revealed in his post-match interview on BBC Sportsound that Rangers “don’t need to speak about titles now” after yet another dismal performance that saw his players continue to go through the motions. They have now let 13 points slip in their opening 12 Premiership games, to which Clement admitted: “It’s totally not acceptable to lose that many points. We all know, I know, the players know so there’s hard work to be done to make that better in the next couple of months.”
Furious goalkeeper Jack Butland - who took over the captain’s armband with James Tavernier dropped to the bench once more - didn’t hold back when asked to deliver his verdict on the 90 minutes in a brutally honest interview. The Englishman couldn’t mask his frustration while speaking to Rangers TV, stating: “It can’t take until the second half to get going. We have got to be better.

Asked if the disappointment stemmed from not taking control of the game, Butland slammed: “It’s not that we didn’t take control, we didn’t do enough to take the game to them. They are coming here to try and get a result and be awkward, which is what teams are going to bring here. It needs more from us - then these goals don’t happen because we are in the ascendancy. We didn’t do that in the first half - and we have not done it enough first halves this season and made our lives difficult.”
Pressed further on what that has been the case, the Gers No.1 responded: “It’s not for the want of trying. It’s not for the (lack of) reminders. We just have to do it. It’s pointless speaking about it. It has just got to be done. It’s the standard. I hate having these conversations. It’s not what the fans deserve, it’s not what the ground staff deserve who get the game on. It’s not what the paying fans deserve from the game. I didn’t enjoy that.”
