Rangers allocation for Hearts away confirmed as demand outweighs supply for title race showdown

Only a small fraction of supporters that applied will receive a ticket in the away end at Tynecastle

16,900 Rangers fans applied for an away ticket at Tynecastle for Rangers’ Bank Holiday Monday top of the table clash with Hearts - but only 576 will be successful.

The Light Blues will travel to Gorgie on Monday, May 4 for the second game of the split in a fixture which could have huge title race implications. Hearts currently sit top of the Premiership on 67 points, one ahead of their Glaswegian rivals. With so much at stake, there is understandably a huge demand for tickets among the Rangers support.

Club Supporter Liaison Officer Greg Marshall confirmed the amount of tickets Rangers will receive for the Tynecastle clash, as well as the ballot process for supporters to obtain tickets. Of those who’ve applied, only around 3% are likely to be successful.

Rangers confirm Hearts away allocation

Marshall said via X: “Emails have been sent to those who were successful in the ballot for Hearts away. Over 16,900 supporters registered for the club’s allocation of 576 tickets. Registration for 14 prior domestic away fixtures this season was required to be included in the ballot.”

While the away allocation may appear to be minimal given the magnitude of the fixture, Hearts are well within their rights to offer 5% of their ground, a similar portion to what Rangers give their visiting fans at Ibrox. In the Jambos’ most successful season in recent memory, Tynecastle has seen above average attendance figures. Their remaining home fixtures against Rangers and Falkirk are both sell-outs.

Why is Hearts vs Rangers on a Bank Holiday Monday?

Another cause of controversy for the Hearts and Rangers clash was the timing. The match has been pencilled in for 5:30pm on a Bank Holiday Monday, a holiday which not all lines of work are entitled to give employees off.

The SPFL justified this by saying the Gorgie clash will be part of Sky Sports’ Bank Holiday ‘bumper coverage’, giving the opportunity for more eyes to be on the fixture from all over the UK. Their statement read: "Hearts v Rangers in round 35 has been scheduled for Monday, May 4, kick-off 5.30pm as part of Sky Sports’ bumper coverage of UK football on the Bank Holiday."

Rangers’ last trip to Tynecastle back in December didn’t go to plan as they were defeated 2-1 by the hosts in a match where they struggled to create anything until the dying minute. Since then, they’ve went undefeated in the league, winning 12 out of 16 games, including a huge 4-2 win over the Jambos in February which put them on their tail.
