Rangers backed to make £5m for Ibrox favourite as blockbuster transfer return chances rated
The player impressed during a previous loan spell at Rangers.
Rangers have been backed to make a move for a former player at Ibrox.
The Light Blues are embarking on their third managerial era inside 12 months of 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh’s ownership. After Danny Rohl headed for RB Salzburg, Rangers moved to appoint Derek McInnes, bringing in the experienced Scottish football manager after a strong debut season at Hearts. Transfer rumours are now abound on who will arrive with striker Lawrence Shankland already signed up.
It’s been claimed Vaclav Cerny is on the radar. He spent last season at Besiktas in Turkey after a loan during season 24/25 at Ibrox that included 18 goals and nine assists in 52 games. Fans were keen to see him back but a return never materialised, however, former Aberdeen, Aston Villa and Everton CEO Keith Wyness senses a deal will be done in the £5m region this summer.
Will Vaclav Cerny return to Rangers?
Now running a consultancy business advising elite clubs, Wyness told The Inside Track: “I think they'll get it done at about £5m, but I do think he's exactly the type of player they need. He's got the experience. McInnes will want that Premiership experience as well. He's a quality player and played well for Rangers. There'll probably be some add-ons, but I think they can get it done at £5m, and it's a very good move if they can get Cerny in."
Transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke previously told the outlet: “A move for Cerny has been described as a "difficult" deal for Rangers to do due to that price tag, but they will continue to monitor his situation in the coming weeks.
“The 28-year-old is seen as being too old to fall in line with the Light Blues' new transfer policy of targeting stars with resale value, but they are prepared to break that if there is a chance that a cut-price deal could be done.

Could Rangers sign Vaclav Cerny this summer?
“The Turkish giants are open to the idea of selling him this summer, if the right offer comes in for them to recoup their cash. Rangers are seemingly reluctant to pay a full £6m for the veteran due to his age, but are prepared to pounce if Besiktas lower their guard.”
McInnes will be unveiled as Rangers manager this week as those not on international duty return to pre-season training. The club have Europa League qualifiers later this summer and begin their domestic campaign in the Premiership against Dundee United on July 31st.
