Hide AdHe comes from a footballing family, and his dad played for Rangers, Derek Ferguson. His uncle also played for the Light Blues and he reckons that both sides of the Glasgow divide missed out on their chance to land the midfielder.
Barry Ferguson was a midfielder just like his nephew, who has excelled upon going abroad to ply his trade. He was left stunned that neither of Scotland’s big two took an educated punt on the star when Aberdeen exit talk was swirling, and now reckons that a club-record fee both sides would struggle to meet is needed to land the Bologna man.
Ex-Rangers skipper Ferguson told Go Radio: “They missed a trick, I said it. I said it, both Rangers and Celtic. I couldn’t believe, I was going to say gamble, it’s not even a gamble. I knew he could play at that level.
“You have seen what he has done. He has gone over to Bologna and he has just excelled as a footballer. He has got even better. You are talking that you need to pay £20 million+ to get Lewis (now). And you know what, through hard work, so credit to him.”
