It’s a huge blow for Rangers and the player.

Philippe Clement has confirmed that Neraysho Kasanwijro is out for four to six months, putting his future at Rangers in doubt.

The defender signed on loan from Feyenoord in the summer and he can play a number of positions across the back line. During the international break, he picked up a knee injury while playing for the Dutch U21s side vs England.

He has not featured for Rangers since then but in the aftermath of a 1-0 Premiership win against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park, boss Clement has confirmed he is out for possibly six months. That could leave him in the treatment room until June, and end his season.

Not only that, but he is only on loan at Rangers with an optio to buy rather than obligation, so it puts into doubt whether the defender will actually done the blue of Rangers again. The right-back returns to Feyenoord for treatment.

Speaking on deadline day after signing the star, Clement said: “We are thrilled to welcome Neraysho to the football club and we believe he will be a big asset to the team.

“He can play in a number of defensive positions and will be a good option for the squad with the domestic and European commitments we have this campaign. He is looking forward to starting the next chapter in his career and we are pleased Neraysho has decided to join Rangers.”

In that position, Rangers do have options. Captain James Tavernier has been the go-to man for season after season while Dujon Sterling provides competition.
