Rangers launch transfer plan that can take them to 'exciting' promised land but quick fix warning aired

Light Blues recruitment has been praised by club icon

Ibrox legend Mark Hateley claims their transfer policy could change the whole dynamic of the club for years to come as Rangers are no longer just looking for a ‘quick fix’ under Derek McInnes.

Judging by the six signings made so far, the Light Blues are establishing a Scottish core in Govan, with leaders all over the pitch. Having spent five years at Ibrox, the new manager embodies the new-found philosophy himself as man who knows the club inside out. Rangers have signed Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Ivor Pandur, Dan Neil and Cammy Devlin so far this window - with several more expected to come through the door before Deadline Day.

While Rangers’ transfer movement was at one stage difficult to keep up with earlier in the summer, the approach to acquiring these players seemed more methodical than transfer windows gone by. The club are now in the process of establishing an identity which they’ve also lacked in recent years. Hateley has been impressed so far by their recruitment and believes it will stand the club in good stead domestically and beyond.

Gers aren’t looking for ‘quick fix’

Hateley said in association with NetBet Football: "I'm going to say to be where we need to be is going to be a time thing. You're not just going to be a quick fix. It's not going to be a quick fix. It's going to be a strategic people coming in here and there, players coming in, the right players coming in. We're not just going to buy anybody for the sake of buying anybody. We've got a complete change around more or less of the first team squad. So there's a lot of work to be done. It's not a quick fix here and I think everybody realises that right now.”

After finishing last season trophy-less and placing third in the Scottish Premiership, it’s no surprise that a squad overhaul was incoming, regardless of who took over from former boss Danny Rohl. McInnes steered Hearts above Rangers last season and was four minutes away from a historic title victory with the Jambos. Hateley believes ‘exciting times’ could be ahead under the new gaffer.

What does Mark Hateley think of the new manager?

He continued: “You've got Derek, who obviously we took on from his successful season last year, just falling short, into a club that he knows very, very well. I think that's been the problem for a while for Rangers, not having people that understand the club, and how it works. That's where we've gone right now. Players coming and going, you know, six or seven players have gone out. I think six or seven players are coming in or have come in.

“When you look at them, all understanding this side of the game up here in Scotland. Domestically, you have to build strong, if you want to go to the next step. That's where we are right now. We are in the process of building a squad under Derek that can be very, very good domestically, which will then lead to other exciting times outside your domestic league."
