Rangers learn price tag for striker they've been 'tracking' as £3m needed for ace with 49ers connections
The claimed Rangers striker target has spent part of this season on loan at Hull City from Leeds United
A report has claimed cash in the region of £3m will be needed if Rangers are to move on one player they’re reportedly tracking.
Joe Gelhardt is on loan at Hull City from Leeds United - also owned by 49ers Enterprises like the Ibrox club - and the Tigers are pushing for the Championship play-offs. He’s netted 14 times with four assists in 38 games at second tier level this term in what is his Hull City comeback, after spending part of last season with the club.
They will look to activate a permanent deal for the star that Rangers are said to have tracked the progress of, with 49ers connections in their favour. Regardless, a £3m fee will be needed to get the job done, with Hull ready to rival the Light Blues regardless of what division they’re in.
How much would Joe Gelhardt of Leeds United cost?
TEAMtalk claim: “Joe Gelhardt, meanwhile, has shone while on loan with Hull, and the Tigers will look to make his move permanent this summer regardless of what division they find themselves in. Gelhardt has played a leading role in Hull’s quest to finish in the play-off places, and Leeds are understood to value the 23-year-old at around the £3m mark.”
Transfer journalist Alan Nixon claimed last month via Patreon: “Hull City star Joe Gelhardt is being watched by Rangers as they look for talent next season. Gelhardt is on loan from Leeds United and having his best season - living up to the promise of his younger days at Wigan.
“The Scottish giants have been tracking him lately, with one eye on improvements for their squad as they challenge for honours. There is an obvious link between Leeds and Rangers through their ownership and a loan switch or even buy could be arranged. Hull would like to have Gelhardt back but the terms may be different next season and at a level that would stretch them if they stay in the Championship.”
What have Hull City said of Rangers target?
Hull boss, Sergej Jakirovic, admitted he had a big part to play in Gelhardt’s return to Hull after his performances last season. He believes he could easily play at the highest level in the future. Jakirovic said of his striker: “When I watched him in last season’s games, I begged Mr Chairman (Acun Ilicali) to bring him back here.
“He likes playing here and he wanted to come back here. He has a completely different profile to the players we have. He has the quality to play in a number of positions and is able to pass, shoot and has speed, which is special. He’s 23 years old and maybe he can reach the Premier League. But, right now, he’s made the difference.”
