Rangers 'likely' to fail in offloading star as Ibrox ace faces uncertain future amid summer frustrations

Striker has had limited first team opportunities thus far

Rangers are ‘likely’ to keep striker Bojan Miovski in the transfer window despite links with several clubs across Europe.

The 27-year old had been the subject of transfer interest from Dutch giants Feyenoord and Turkish side Genclerbirligi however no concrete bids have been been made as yet. Despite falling out of favour at Ibrox, the North Macedonia international is reportedly happy to stay and fight for his place. Miovski under contract at Rangers until 2029.

Under new boss Derek McInnes, the former Aberdeen and Girona man has fallen down the selection pecking order, behind strikers Lawrence Shankland, Ryan Naderi and Youssef Chermiti. An ACL injury to the latter perhaps opened the door for more game time for Miovski, however with the club on the verge of signing Venezuelan marksman Kevin Kelsy for Portland Timbers for £9m, he’s going back to square one.

Miovski ‘likely’ to stay at Ibrox

According to the Daily Record: “Bojan Miovski looks likely to stay at Rangers. The North Macedonian international failed to see interest from any of Europe’s top five leagues come to fruition. Sources close to the former Girona and Aberdeen player has indicated that he is happy to remain at Ibrox. He has found his first-team opportunities limited under Derek McInnes. Feyenoord had enquired about a possible move but he wasn’t at the top of their striking options. Miovski has also been linked with Genclerbirligi.”

The Turkish transfer window closes on Friday meaning theoretically, a deal still could be struck until then if they can’t find another number nine. Until the market is closed, Miovski’s future remains up in the air and even if he stays at Ibrox, there’s no guarantee that he’ll fight his way back into the first team picture, especially once Kelsy’s arrival is over the line.

Kelsy deal could have impact Miovski’s future

If Rangers are to secure Kelsy for £9.5m as reported, it’d be unlikely for what would be their third most expensive ever player to sit on the bench. In turn, Miovski would be fourth choice striker - and with McInnes reverting back to a 4-3-3 formation in recent weeks, there’s even less scope for a return to the action. Kelsy - who has bagged nine goals in the MLS this season - has completed his Ibrox medical and is now awaiting visa approvals to finalise the transfer.

Miovski scored 13 times for Rangers last season in 42 appearances but many of these were from the bench or in cup games. Despite hitting double figures, the striker hasn’t been able to hit the heights he hit at Pittodrie. During his two seasons at Aberdeen, he found the back of the net 44 times.
