Signed by iconic Gers boss Scot Symon for £5,000 in January 1955, Edinburgh-born Millar started his career at Dunfermline Athletic and would go on to lift 11 trophies during his time in Govan before a stint at Dundee United.

He had a brief spell in management with Raith Rovers before going on to own a pub in Leith. Millar’s family revealed in 2017 he had been battling dementia for the previous decade.

A club statement read: “Rangers Football Club is saddened by the news of the death of our former player, Jimmy Millar.

“Starting his career at Dunfermline, Millar was signed by Scot Symon in January 1955 and went on to enjoy a 12-year spell at Ibrox. He lifted three League titles, five Scottish Cups and three League Cups during his time at the club and was later inducted into Rangers’ Hall of Fame.
