Rangers predicted XI vs Motherwell: Two changes from Falkirk as impact substitute rewarded with start

Here’s how we think Derek McInnes will look on Saturday afternoon

Rangers boss Derek McInnes has a few selection headaches to ponder this weekend against Motherwell as he seeks to continue their winning run.

The Govan side return to Ibrox this weekend after back-to-back away victories over Aberdeen and Falkirk respectively. While not at their best in either, it was imperative that Rangers started to get points on the board in the Premiership table after their European humiliation. They’ve bounced back strongly since their Conference League play-off defeat to Czech minnows Jablonec but Saturday brings a different test.

Rangers fans won’t need reminded that Motherwell defeated them 3-2 in their last trip to Ibrox to mark the start of last season’s title race capitulation. New manager Alfred Johannson has taken an ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ approach to management at Fir Park after their heroics under Jens Berthel Askou. The Steelmen are still a heavily possession-based side regardless of their opponent.

Whether this factors into McInnes’ thinking when he selects his starting XI on Saturday remains to be seen, but what is expected is a step up in opposition from Rangers’ last few outings. Here’s how we think the Ibrox side will lineup on Saturday, using the 4-3-3 formation:

GK - Ivor Pandur

New stopper has proved to be a capable set of hands so far and has got his team out of jail on multiple occasions.

RB - Ross McCrorie

Some fancy footwork before a nicely timed pass for the assist for the winner against Falkirk. Could be rewarded with a start.

CB - Emmanuel Fernandez

He’s severely lacked concentration this season at the back, particularly with ball at his feet, but with limited options in this area it’s unlikely he’ll lose his place.

CB - Olwethu Makhanya

Has the makings of a very solid central defender. Also isn’t afraid to burst forward which could excite the Ibrox faithful.

LB - James Penrice

Fellow left back Tuur Rommens is nearing a return from injury but for now the new addition has stolen his place.

CM - Nico Raskin

The subject of transfer interest throughout the window, but now his immediate future will definitely be at Ibrox he’ll be a huge player for the season ahead.

CM - Dan Neil

Not in the squad for the trip to Falkirk and will be keen to prove himself. Hasn’t set the world alight yet since his move from Sunderland but there’s a player in there.

AM - Kim Min-su

Arguable Rangers’ most exciting summer addition so far. Unlucky not have found the back of the net in both of his appearances so far.

RW - Findlay Curtis

Two starts in two for the winger who has looked sharp. McInnes will be hoping he continues to bring the quality he showcased for Kilmarnock during last season’s loan spell.

LW - Djeidi Gassama

Never know what you’re getting from the Frenchman - but recently he’s been bang at it. All that’s been missing is an end product.

ST - Lawrence Shankland

Three in two for the striker who showed just why Rangers signed him at the Falkirk Stadium. His left-footed brace saved them on the night.
