Rangers set to 'reject' any bid for West Ham United target as transfer interest in summer signing grows

The Gers are just three points off the top of the table but remain behind Hearts and Celtic ahead of a crucial run-in which could determine all three clubs’ transfer business over the summer window.

Strong recruitment will be paramount for Rangers as they look to mount consistent title challenges over the seasons to come, while it may ease the growing pressure on Rohl after a pair of recent disappointing Old Firm performances which saw the Ibrox side lose ground in the title race and crash out of the Scottish Cup.

Keeping hold of key players will also be at the forefront of Rohl and 49ers Enterprises’ thinking this summer. Key defender Emmanuel Fernandez has seen transfer links grow in recent weeks and the Gers will hope to hold onto him this summer.

Rangers to reject all bids for Fernandez as West Ham told they have ‘no chance’

Reported by Football Insider, Rangers are ready to ‘reject all moves’ for Fernandez this summer, as West Ham United increase their interest in the 24-year-old defender.

The Hammers are fighting against relegation from the Premier League and are still within the bottom three despite a recent upturn in form. Reporting continues that relegation would mean that West Ham have ‘no chance’ of signing Fernandez.

The former Peterborough United star is under contract until 2029 having signed as a relative unknown quantity last summer, and Rangers have ‘no intention’ of letting him leave at the end of the season. Qualifying for the Champions League could go even further to securing the long-term future of the player, who is attracting strong interest and will be keen to play at the highest level if he continues at his recent rate of development.

Fernandez endured a shaky start in Glasgow after his summer move but has become a mainstay at the back under Rohl, also growing into a key threat from set pieces. He has seen previous links with Arsenal and Chelsea in addition to West Ham.

What Fernandez said after signing for Rangers

Signing from English League One side Peterborough last summer, Fernandez has seen a rapid rise to prominence and even admitted his surprise when a club the size of Rangers made a move to sign him.

He said after signing for the club: "It is a huge club with a great fanbase and I think I can kickstart my career and have a good journey here.

"I was shocked when I heard about Rangers, because it is such a big club, but it was the place I wanted to be. I haven't played at this level, there will be a lot of life changes for me, but it is something I want to be part of and I can't wait to get started."
