A roundup of headlines for Celtic and Rangers as the Scottish Premiership returns.

The Scottish Premiership is back and following a 2-2 draw between Celtic and Aberdeen, the two at the top of the table still cannot be separated. The sides remain the only two in the league yet to lose a game and their stalemate means they continue to match each other point for point.

Rangers will spring into action on Sunday against Kilmarnock to round off the weekend. Let’s take a look at the latest Celtic and Gers headlines.

Rangers could miss out on windfall

Former Rangers starlet Rory Wilson has hit a roadblock over contract discussions with current club Aston Villa. The 18-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his contract with the Premier League club and with talks not going to plan so far, there is a risk of him leaving the club for free.

According to The Athletic, Wilson has ‘dismissed a series of five-year contracts’ proposed by Aston Villa and weekly salary offers reaching five-figures and above have also been discussed. However, the club have made it clear that they will not meet salary expectations ‘more than double the best-paid player in the academy and more than the first contracts of some members in Villa’s senior squad’.

The report says that the ‘likelihood’ is that Wilson will leave the club once his contract expires next summer. As things stand, Rangers are watching a cash windfall deplete. If he leaves in January, Villa will be due a £233,000 training compensation fee, with 10 percent (£23,000) going back to Ibrox. However, that cash hangs in the balance as there is now a chance he could leave as a free agent instead.

Ex-Scotland star says Celtic ‘weaker’ without key man

Celtic were held to a 2-2 draw by Aberdeen on Saturday, meaning there is still nothing to separate the two at the top of the Scottish Premiership table. Despite the Hoops taking a 2-0 lead before the half hour mark, the Dons bounced back with two goals in the second half to stay hot on the heels of the reigning champions.

Celtic have been without Cameron Carter-Vickers for the last three league fixtures and former Scotland international Barry Ferguson believes that the side is ‘weaker’ without the influence of the centre-back.

“He is the glue at the back, a good communicator and a massive player for Celtic. When Carter-Vickers isn’t in the starting 11 I think Celtic look a weaker team,” Ferguson told the Go Radio Football Show.

Despite dominating with possession and passing, Celtic still shipped two goals on home soil and dropped their first points of the season as they met with their closest title rivals.
