New Rangers signing Andreas Skov Olsen issues 'biggest club' admission as loan-to-buy transfer sealed
Danish international checks in at Ibrox on an initial loan deal until the end of the season with a permanent option in place this summer
Andreas Skov Olsen admits he is joining the “biggest club in Scotland” after Rangers confirmed the loan signing of the Danish internationalist from VfL Wolfsburg.
The 26-year-old winger was announced as head coach Danny Rohl’s latest capture just before Friday night’s Scottish Cup fourth round tie against Annan Athletic at Ibrox.
His arrival from the Bundesliga side is a real statement of intent given the player’s pedigree, with the deal including an option to buy him for around £9 million at the end of the season.
Skov Olsen has been capped 40 times by Denmark and moved to Wolfsburg for £12m a year ago after three successful years with Belgian outfit Club Brugge. But he has struggled for regular game time in the German top-flight this term and was keen on making the move to Glasgow.
He becomes the Light Blues’ third addition of the January window, following the arrivals of £4m midfielder Tochi Chukwuani from Sturm Graz and £3.5m left-back Tuur Rommens from Westerlo.
Skov Olsen: ‘Rangers are the biggest club in Scotland’
Skov Olsen was unveiled in front of the Ibrox crowd before kick-off and he is determined to add more silverware to his CV.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “I’m very excited. I’m very happy that it’s done and I’m so excited to meet all the players, fans and the rest of the club.
“Rangers are the biggest club in Scotland with a huge history. It has huge traditions and is a very old club.
“When I finally heard that I had the opportunity to come here, I wasn’t in doubt for a second. I want to come here to try help win trophies with the rest of the team, do my best, and have a great time here.”
Skov Olsen is ineligible to play in next week’s Europa League clash against Ludogorets Razgrad but could feature in the Scottish Premiership clash with Dundee a week on Sunday.
What has Danny Rohl said?
Rohl commented: “We are really excited to bring Andreas to the club. He is a player who has proven himself at the top level and brings experience of performing under pressure both domestically and on the European stage.
“He will provide real quality in the final third of the pitch and arrives hungry for this challenge and excited by the opportunity ahead of him.”
