Rangers star bids farewell amid parent club return as Ibrox 'privilege' summed up in social media post
The Brentford loanee has now returned to West London
Rangers defender Jayden Meghoma has bid an emotional farewell to the club as his season-long loan spell from Brentford comes to an end.
The 19-year old made 44 appearances for Rangers over the course of the season and for the first half of the campaign was their only senior recognised left back. Since being signed by former boss Russell Martin in August, Meghoma scored once and provided six assists. He will now return to the Brentford Community Stadium, where he remains under contract for another year.
It was a season of ups and downs for the young full back, who Rangers heavily relied upon before January, when boss Danny Rohl signed Tuur Rommens from Westerlo to bolster his left back options. Having played so many games, the move has been beneficial to Brentford, who chose to farm him out to see him acquire more minutes.
‘It’s been a privilege to wear the badge’ - Meghoma on Rangers stint
As he now returns to London, Meghoma took to X to express his gratitude to Rangers for giving him his first season consistently on the grass. In an emotional farewell post, he wrote: "It’s been a privilege to wear this badge. Thank you to my teammates, staff, and especially the fans for the support this season. Rangers FC is a special club and one I’ll always be thankful to have represented. All the best for what’s ahead."
While defensive positioning eventually lost Meghoma his place in the team to Rommens, going forward he showed signs of promise. His thunderous strike in December’s 2-2 draw away to Dundee United remains one of the best goals Rangers scored all season. The Englishman also carried a threat from dead-ball situations.
Light Blues say goodbye to loanees
Meghoma now joins Andreas Skov Olsen, Derek Cornelius, Max Aarons, Nasser Djiga and Mikey Moore on the list of players returning to their parent clubs. The most notable of which is the latter, who Rohl claimed he will ‘try everything’ to sign from Tottenham Hotspur after a successful campaign.
Also headed for the Ibrox exit door are homegrown talents Leon King and Kieran Wright, who both said goodbye to the club last week after 17 years of service apiece. Chairman Andrew Cavenagh has echoed Rohl’s claims that a summer rebuild is required at Ibrox ahead of the summer transfer window.
