Rangers star told his Ibrox future will be decided on World Cup condition amid outside noise
The midfielder is one of six Rangers players headed to North America
Rangers star Nico Raskin is more likely to leave the club in the summer if he performs well at the World Cup with Belgium, according to ex striker Kris Boyd.
The 25-year-old was linked with a move away from Ibrox in January and the speculation has now extended to the summer. English clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves as well as Turkish side Besiktas were reportedly monitoring him last season, however no official bids have been made thus far.
Since his international debut in March 2025, Raskin has been a regular for the Belgium national team and hasn’t looked out of place despite the star-studded lineup. The Rangers man was on target in their recent 5-0 win over Tunisia in a World Cup friendly. The Red Devils will face Egypt, Iran and New Zealand in their three group stage fixtures which Raskin is expected to play a part in.
Rangers hero reckons Raskin’s future is World Cup dependant
Former Rangers marksman Boyd thinks his old team may already be tempted to cash in on Raskin - and that a strong World Cup for the Belgian will only increase his chances of him leaving the club. Speaking on the Warm-Up podcast alongside Chris Sutton, Boyd said: “I will be interested to see what happens with Nico Raskin.
“He’s another that’s been constantly linked with moves away from Rangers. So when do you get to the stage where Rangers look at what he’s valued at and move him on? I’m sure Rangers will be looking at him now and thinking, if he goes and has a good World Cup, is there potential for somebody to come along?
“Because I think we’re both in agreement, that there’s a player in there. There’s someone there who could move onto a better league and go and showcase their skills elsewhere. But I think the World Cup will be key to Nico Raskin potentially moving on.”
Where has Raskin been linked to?
The midfielder bagged seven goals and nine assists in his 50 Rangers appearances last season despite not being at his best. Europa League winners Aston Villa and Premier League survivors Leeds United have also been monitoring his progress, as well as Spanish giants Real Betis. Boyd also claimed last week that Raskin remains Rangers’ ‘most sellable asset’.
He said: “The American owners have already spent a lot of money but you also have to start bringing money in — and the most sellable asset in that squad right now would be Raskin. There’s no doubt his ambition will be to further his career and play in a better league than Scotland. He might not get a bigger club than Rangers but when you see how he’s done in Europe, to me he's done enough to suggest that he can perform at a higher level.”
