Rangers could be 'tempted' by £10m summer transfer offer despite rejecting similar bid in January
The Ibrox club knocked back an offer for the former PSG and Sheffield Wednesday man earlier this year.
It already looks like being a busy summer transfer window for Rangers with the 2025/26 Scottish Premiership having been finished less than a fortnight.
Danny Röhl’s side have moved fast to make their first new signing and it’s a big one with Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland expected to be unveiled in the next few days. Supporters of the Ibrox club will be hoping the Scotland striker, who will travel with the national team to this summer’s FIFA World Cup finals, is the first of many new arrivals.
However, they will also have to consider which players from their current crop of first team stars still have a future with the Glasgow club. There is recent news suggesting they may consider selling one player despite having knocked back a significant offer already this year.
£10m transfer offer could ‘tempt’ Rangers into selling former Sheffield Wednesday man
Per a report from Football Insider, one player who could leave Rangers this summer is Djeidi Gassama. That is despite the Ibrox club having apparently already rejected a significant offer for the winger in the summer.
It is claimed that French Ligue 1 side Monaco had a £10 million offer thrown out during the mid-season window. Now, an offer of similar value could ‘tempt’ Rangers into parting company with the 22-year old.
The same report claims that Gassama is ‘increasingly likely’ to leave Ibrox this summer. The Mauritania international made 56 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals along the way.
The former PSG man is just one year into a four year contract with Danny Röhl’s side, having arrived last summer from financially crippled EFL outfit Sheffield Wednesday. The French born wide-man, who came through the ranks at Paris Saint-Germain, played for the country of his birth at under 20 international level before switching international allegiances to Mauritania in March.
Are any Premier League clubs interested in Rangers winger Djeidi Gassama?
It is also claimed that Gassama has interest from clubs in England’s Premier League, although the report does not name any specific suitors. It is believed that selling the 22-year-old would help to generate some much needed transfer funds for Danny Röhl to reinvest back in the Rangers squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Meanwhile, the signing of Lawrence Shankland is expected to be complete in the next few days. The Hearts captain is said to have cut his holiday in Portugal short to fly into Glasgow with a view to getting the deal over the line.
A medical is expected to take place on Tuesday, which all parties will hope is merely a formality, ahead of an official announcement. Shankland is set to sign a two year contract at Ibrox with the option of an additional one year extension.
The former Aberdeen and Dundee United forward, who has long been linked with a transfer move to Rangers, scored 16 league goals for the Jambos last season as they finished above Rangers in second place and secure Champions League football.
