Rangers see second transfer chance open for £8m attacker with club 'desperate to sell'
The latest Rangers transfer news with a former Ibrox loanee still having a chance of an unlikely return to Glasgow.
Rangers are set to return to their summer transfer business with the managerial situation at Ibrox now stabilised.
Following reports last week the departure of Danny Rohl to Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg was confirmed yesterday afternoon. Just a few hours later and the arrival of Hearts boss Derek McInnes to replace the former Sheffield Wednesday gaffer was confirmed.
Now that McInnes is in the door at the Glasgow club they can get back to strengthening their first team squad with the former Jambos boss already reunited with his Tynecastle captain Lawrence Shankland who was Rangers first summer arrival. A recent report is now suggesting that an unlikely second opportunity to re-sign a loanee from last season could have emerged for the Gers.
Wolfsburg ‘desperate to sell’ winger after Rangers pass on £8m option in loan contract
A report from German publication Braunschweiger-Zeitung, picked up by the Daily Record, claims that Bundesliga outfit VFL Wolfsburg are ‘desperate to sell’ winger Andreas Skov Olsen this summer. The 26-year old spent the second half of last season on loan at Rangers.
The 40-times caped Denmark international, who has not been capped since last September and missed out on selection for this summer’s FIFA World Cup finals, arrived in Glasgow to much hype. However, he managed just one goal in 10 appearances in Scotland in an ultimately underwhelming stint.
Rangers had the option to buy the former Club Brugge and Bologna man for £8 million this summer but understandably have not taken up that clause. However, a second chance at bringing the once highly regarded attacker back to Ibrox could be on the cards with Wolfsburg apparently looking to trim their first team squad after a dismal season in German football’s top flight where they finished 16th out of 18 clubs and just four points above the relegation places.
It is said that Lower Saxony based club would be willing to let Skov Olsen leave for ‘a fraction’ of that fee. With new head coach Derek McInnes in the door at Ibrox it may very well be a deal that they explore.
Andreas Skov Olsen looking to reignite promising career after disappointing Rangers loan spell
Skov Olsen has been a highly sought after player in European football in the past with Wolfsburg reportedly paying £12 million to sign him from Club Brugge in January 2025. He had lit up the Belgian Pro League and scored 49 goals in 124 appearances across all competitions for Brugge who signed him from Italian side Bologna in 2022.
He had attracted the interest from the Serie A side after a stunning debut season with Nordsjælland in his native Denmark where he scored a whopping 26 goals in 44 matches across all competitions during the 2018/19 campaign. However, he couldn’t recapture that sort of from at Wolfsburg and was very much utilised as a squad player during his time in Germany before joining Rangers where he arrived to significant fanfare but once again was unable to fully recapture the magic he had in Denmark and Belgium.
