Report: Rangers forward ‘on his way’ to new club as winter deal ‘on the verge’ of completion
Rangers are closing in on their fourth player exit of the winter transfer window
Rangers striker Danilo is currently ‘on his way’ to a new club as he stands on the edge of signing a deal away from Ibrox.
The Light Blues have already sanctioned the move of three players this transfer window and Danilo is looking likely to be the next out the door before the deadline arrives.
Oscar Cortes and Lyall Cameron have both left the club on loan, while Kieran Dowell made the permanent move to EFL Championship side Hull City.
Danilo ‘on his way’ to new club from Rangers
According to a report from Dutch outlet VI, Eredivisie club NEC Nijmegen are looking to add Danilo to their ranks before the winter transfer window closes. The striker, who has made just six Scottish Premiership starts this season, is ‘on his way’ to the Netherlands to finalise a deal with NEC.
Having made mostly sporadic appearances for the Light Blues this season, the club were looking to sell him permanently to Cypriot side Pafoc FC this winter. However, Danilo is said to have ‘preferred’ the idea of joining NEC on loan.
The Dutch side, who are currently fourth in the Eredivisie table, are ‘on the verge’ of reaching an agreement with Danilo. It has been reported that there will not be an option to buy included in the loan deal.
Danilo due a medical with loan club
Cypriot side Pafos had been in contact with Rangers and the Scottish powerhouses would have preferred to strike a deal with them, as they wanted to spend cash on signing Danilo permanently. His current contract at Ibrox runs until 2028 but the Gers are seemingly looking to offload him.
Danilo still needs to undergo a medical with chosen club NEC before a deal can be finalised. If all goes ahead with the loan transfer, the 26-year-old will likely settle into his new surroundings easily. He is no stranger to playing in the Netherlands either, having started his career at Ajax, where he spent time as both a senior and youth player.
Danilo has also represented FC Twente and Feyenoord during his career. He won the Eredivisie title with both Ajax and Feyenoord and scored 29 Dutch league goals across his time there. He joined Rangers from Arne Slot’s former side in 2023, penning a five-year deal upon his arrival.
