Red-hot Rangers forward 'in great place' as he bids for huge summer

Ibrox player bidding to step ahead of rest with Clarke

Rangers starlet Findlay Curtis could be in line for shock Scotland start at the World Cup against Haiti.

Teenager Curtis was included in the Scotland squad for the finals, which begin next week - and head coach Steve Clarke has admitted he has been impressed by what the 19-year-old can offer.

Curtis was farmed out on loan to Kilmarnock from Rangers for the second half of last season and his performances have catapulted him on to the international stage. He is vying with Ben Gannon-Doak for a place on the wing against the Haitians on June 14.

Curtis may get another chance to stake his World Cup claim on Saturday night when Scotland take on Bolivia in Harrison, New Jersey - their final match before the finals commence.

On the winger conundrum, Clarke said: “If you watched the game at the weekend, you would have seen that Ben is obviously lacking minutes and looks a little bit rusty.

“So against Bolivia it will be about trying to get more minutes into him and seeing if he can just slow down and relax a little bit on the part of the game that he needs to work on.

“Findlay has come off the end of the season in a totally different situation. He’s on a high, he’s doing this and that and his goal at the weekend might have been scruffy, but he scored it because he’s touch-sharp.

“So he’s in a great place. He’s very confident and he’s a really good boy. I really like him. His personality is good, he’s good around the place. And sometimes it all comes down to timing.

“Sometimes it’s young players who turn up, sometimes it’s the more senior players. But if the mood is right and the moment is right then hopefully we can get more than just one hero — hopefully we can get two or three.”

Curtis is one of four Rangers players in the Scotland squad and the quartet could play their part against the Bolivians at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Goalkeeper Liam Kelly, defender John Souttar and new striker Lawrence Shankland are set to be involved in some capacity.
